FILM | 'The Contract' - Nine Things You Just Realised You Never Knew

Nine things about 'The Contract' you just realised you never knew.

Who woulda thunk a little script carried so much weight?

  •  Originally written as a 10 minute short play.
  • Script Development Partners - A Fistful Of Scripts [Season 2], April 2011 - audience feedback, "...that's not a 10 minute play. It's a 6 part TV series".
  • Writer / creator / director / producer Sean McIntyre has cast the same actors as per original script reading. This is his 'thank-you' for their support of the work and their unpaid participation in his script reading series: 'A Fistful of Scripts', 2nd April 2011.
  • 'A Fistful of Scripts' - a proven incubator for development of scripts. Demonstrated by rich audience feedback when the original script was presented as a rehearsed staged reading in April, 2011.
  • Alex McArthur (SPUD) no longer lives in Melbourne.
  • Adam Turnbull (WES) has a key support role, yet in the TV pilot only has 2 to 3 lines. Each character has a significant backstory and character arc. These explain not only their offscreen personal and family lives, but also the interpersonal and inter-office relationships between the characters.
  • Survival is a primary theme of this series. To create an aesthetic of restricted confinement, intensity, urgency and rising levels of conflict between the characters, The Contract will borrow heavily from Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat and James Cameron's Titanic. This is expressly linked to and articulated through a key metaphor: STM Asia Pacific Constructions is representative of a life-boat.
  • A secondary theme is built around the supporting characters and the proverbial principle of three wise monkeys - together they will embody 'see no evil (Gallaher), hear no evil (Lewis), speak no evil (Kane)'.
  • Oct 2014 - Claudia Greenstone's character is yet to be created - it has not yet been written into the TV pilot. Her character is originally part of the back story for another character. Claudia's casting derives from her participation in the original script reading as a professional narrator for rehearsed readings As well as subsequent seasons of 'A Fistful of Scripts').
