MEDIA RELEASE | First Reading Of Sean McIntyre's 'KIDS' at MTC’s Neon Festival Of Independent Theatre

MEDIA RELEASE  | Told through the eyes of seven children drawn from diverse local and ethnic multicultural backgrounds, 'KIDS' delves into pressing issues facing Australian society. It tackles ideas of identity, empathy and migration, exploring Australia’s attitudes to immigration.

'KIDS' takes inspiration from the classic Latin American play 'Juegos A La Hora De La Siesta', by Polish-born Argentinian playwright Roma Mahieu, a critical, subversive and highly political commentary on the Argentinean dictatorship.

A future staged version of this work will be directed by Ivan Rojas. This reading is presented by Jimmy Flinders Productions.

Melbourne has a population of over four million, its people speak over 250 languages,
and one in three houses speak a language other than English around the dinner table – this is gold for Melbourne audiences. How various, complex and rich are its stories?

This NEON Reading is presented in association with MTC CONNECT, a partnership between Multicultural Arts Victoria and the Melbourne Theatre Company that engages talented theatre practitioners from diverse communities to build a richer arts landscape.

As part of NEON, MTC’s Festival of Independent Theatre, three MTC CONNECT Ambassadors, Rani Pramesti, Rashma N. Kalsie and Marco Romero present first stage readings of new work - offering a chance to be part of a vital stage of a play’s development, begin ning the dynamic conversation between writers and audiences.
