MEDIA RELEASE | 'SACRIFICE' Trailer Asks: 'How Far Are You Willing To Go For Your Art?'

Prog-rock. Astral. Space-core. Not your typical music genre but - like the proverbial hand in a glove - one that suits Melbourne-based international band AlithiA all too well.

With a script by Sean McIntyre - who also features in a lead role and as associate producer - AlithiA today releases the official trailer for their extraordinary part-mockumentary /part-art film. 'SACRIFICE' captures AlithiA’s deep desire to simply create art, share it and connect with the world through it.

Yet under the surface, unease is apparent within and between each member of the band. Pressure from outside forces, conflicting priorities and growing commercial realities is building.

SYNOPSIS | long
Through the prism of the music industry, ‘SACRIFICE’ explores the importance of art to those who create it and those that consume it.

Like flies on a wall, we join ALITHIA watching as they arrive to play at prominent inner city venue in Melbourne, Australia.  At face value TIBOR, JONNIE, JEFF, DANNY and VAL are good mates - seasoned professionals who go about the business of set-up and sound-check with a minimum of fuss.

Yet under the surface, unease is apparent within and between each member. Throughout interviews with a film crew, we discover that the goals and aspirations of these dedicated musicians are changing, and in some ways, waning. Outside forces and conflicting priorities are represented by their band manager ELI, the band’s newly appointed digital marketing consultant and the manager of the venue where they are playing.

More than ever, the commercial realities of running the band as a small business are in direct conflict with a deep desire to simply create art, share it and connect with the world through it.

Punters assemble for ALITHIA’s ‘Departure Show’. Disinterest. Disconnection. Disaster? Ask not what art can do for you. What are you willing to do for your art?

Directed by George Kalpa, 'SACRIFICE' was filmed at The Workers Club, Fitzroy and Inaway Studios, Melbourne. Cameras followed the group for 48 hours as band members go through the motions, in this extraordinary yet to be seen part-mockumentary/part-art film.
