'A Fistful Of Scripts' is building traction and momentum quickly slowly.
Yeah -- well the script readings ...
My script writing software crashed in March and I've been really disciplined in that I made a commitment to myself not to spend the money on upgrading to new software until I got a job. The problem with that was although 27 June was pretty much locked in, I couldn't work on the 3 scripts I had in mind.
Good thing though that although they are work in progress they are not going to be hard to finish. I have actors already lined up from April and also met with a new actor last month to workshop a short story I wrote at Oxford into a monologue and we both reckon it has legs to be a fuller 10 minute piece.
So last week just as I advised the GM at the theatre it needed to to be a later date, a writer/director I auditioned for in January emailed me back to say he really wanted to catch up - specifically about the script readings and to get on board as a contributing writer.
So we had a chat the other week over a beer. He showed me the the trailer of his short film that I missed out on for a role and reckons he has 2 new film script he wants to run as a script reading. He loves loves loves the whole idea of the script reading and can't believe how well it is set up.
So just waiting for theatre to come back with dates probably late July, early August.
In the mean time I've also been sussing out interest from the Oxford crew. I already have this awesome script - a play - from the fellow in Cairo, while another is putting finishing touches to the draft of a script. So October I'll be going international...cool, eh?
And by then my scripts should be ready, so all in all 3 more possible script readings. Now I'm also concentrating more on producing it and marketing it so already approaching people who appear dead keen to suss out just how genuine they are about building more 'creative network cred' for themselves.
So it's all good but more than ever I'm aware I need to find people to delegate to in order for it to grow. A great thing on the recent weekend shoot was that many of the other 30 actors I mentioned it too found it an agreeable concept too.
