NEWS | Family Secrets Exposed In ‘Bomb The Base’

Richmond resident Christina Walls stars as ALICE in ‘Bomb The Base’, a contemporary tale that dissects complex personal relationships and global political alliances. The full-length stage production enjoys its global premiere this week at 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

On the eve of her uncle's funeral within 9/11's lengthening shadow an eloquent, yet jet-lagged ALICE returns from Washington, where she works as a political analyst, to confront her own personal Ground Zero.

Christina was drawn to the evocative and challenging nature of the script, particularly in the way it challenges ideas of history and knowledge in relation to 9-11 and Bush's war on terror.

“I like that Alice is a balance of strength and vulnerability. Intelligent and opinionated in her professional life, she has trouble using that in personal life. By focussing on her career, she has suppressed her pain from damaging relationships with men - but you can't do that forever.

Written by prolific Melbourne-based international playwright Mark Andrew,‘Bomb The Base’ runns this week until Oct 8. Leading a strong cast, Christina’s deft and highly emotive performance is already attracting outstanding reviews.

“It’s fantastic to see such a strong female character, something that is quite rare,” says Christina Walls.
In a case of life imitating art, Christina thinks that like ALICE she too will head State-side.
“At the moment I have no idea what is next, except to say that most likely, I’ll study in New York next year.”

2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival runs until Sunday 9 October. Bookings can be made at www.melbournefringe.com.au
