ARTS | World Premiere Of Lounge Theatre At The Butterfly Club

Jimmy Flinders Productions is delighted to announce that its outstanding new stage production - Lounge Theatre – will enjoy its exclusive world premiere at one of Melbourne’s most prestigious and well-known venues: The Butterfly Club.  A bold, new theatre concept, Lounge Theatre is performed within domestic environments and intimate venues to discerning, niche audiences of 20 to 40 people.

“The nature of Lounge Theatre means that the audience is extremely close to the actual performance space,” says Marco Romero Rodriguez, Artistic Director and Co-Producer. “It’s unique, micro-theatre viewed within the comfort of your own lounge room. Or one very much like it”.

Presented by Jimmy Flinders Productions, Lounge Theatre is an intimate, moving and highly engaging theatre experience which is already capturing much attention and the imagination of Melbourne‘s arts industry and community.

“Lounge Theatre consists of two separate scripts,” says Sean McIntyre. “During our week long season at The Butterfly Club we are presenting two separate albeit concurrent stage productions: ‘Michael and Paul’ and ‘Renee and Laura’.”

Lounge Theatre tells the story of two friends renewing their acquaintance after a high-school reunion. Despite an awkward beginning, a casual conversation between the two will soon trigger moments of revealing truths far deeper than either person is prepared for.

“Raw. Truthful. Intimate – that’s the strength and appeal of Lounge Theatre,” says McIntyre, who is both Playwright and Executive Producer.

“With high quality scripts, highly-trained, professional actors directed by a professionally trained and highly experienced international director, we strongly believe that our characters are uniquely identifiable,” says McIntyre.  “Rarely seen on Australian stage and / or film, audiences will relate to these appealing characters through their age, life experiences and aspirations for their relationships and careers.

Romero Rodriguez says that the scripts are 60 to 70 minutes in length.

“Lounge Theatre is but one of many productions that we wish to produce through our entity, Jimmy Flinders Productions“, says Marco Romero Rodriguez. “Lounge Theatre will become our calling card to our industry and the public.”

Lounge Theatre’s primary target audience is domestic environments on an ongoing basis; that is, people who want to see Lounge Theatre performed in their home because they consume arts on a regular or semi-regular basis and yearn for a new theatre experience.

Having identified several other potential audience segments, Jimmy Flinders Productions will be targeting multiple audience sectors.

The Butterfly Club represents a successful project milestone and a significant achievement for this new creative entity. Jimmy Flinders invites you to join him, the cast, playright and director in the bar after each show to share your Lounge Theatre experience.

ABOUT | LOUNGE THEATRE
Performed by a cast of two actors to discerning, niche audiences, Lounge Theatre is:
  • Unique presentations of ‘micro-theatre’
  • Performed in a lounge room or intimate, small venue in front of a small audience of 20 to 40 people
  • The plays are of a very intimate nature that contain scenes of high drama and comedy  an intense character study exploring the lives of two high-school friends who haven't seen each other for years
  • separate stories of two men and women who recount and share their life experiences. The audience is drawn into a journey through their career achievements, regrets and struggle to maintain a balanced family life in a fast-changing world.
Lounge Theatre’s primary target is domestic environments – people that want to see Lounge Theatre performed in their home.  They also consume arts on a regular or semi-regular basis and yearn for a new theatre experience.

Lounge Theatre also reaches out beyond its core audience to those arts consumers who want a different theatre experience in segments such as leisure venues (eg The Sloaney Pony - Port Melbourne [confirmed July 2012], Long Play  – North Fitzroy [confirmed August 2012], corporate (hotels, corporate bookings), activity groups – enquires and booking welcome (RSVP, Dinner For Six, single parent groups), tourist venues (eg Wineries – Yarra Valley, Mornington), other arts venues, touring (ski-resorts, regional Victoria or interstate), retirement villages).

Jimmy Flinders Productions is a boutique production company.

Influenced by the life experiences of JIMMY FLINDERS, we produce and specialise in live performances and film production.

Having now resettled in Melbourne into comfortable retirement, JIMMY FLINDERS appointed MARCO ROMERO RODRIGUEZ and SEAN McINTYRE in January 2012 as trustees and executors of his artistic intentions and legacy.

Established in January 2012, Marco Romero Rodriguez and Sean McIntyre’s newly created theatre and film production initiative was christened Jimmy Flinders Productions.

Lounge Theatre will be the first production of any kind staged by Jimmy Flinders Productions.

It is also the first full length stage play to be produced by Marco Romero Roderiguez and Sean McIntyre – either collectively or separately. The scripts are also the first full length scripts for the stage written by Sean McIntyre.

As emerging artists, we do not see ourselves as followers of artistic trends.  By offering a bold alternative and creating a new market niche, Lounge Theatre will set the pace.

Our unique strengths include: low overheads, a mobile production, highly adaptable crew and cast as well as scripts that rigorously investigate their characters to bring new stories to the stage in a unique form.    We have a demonstrated ability to work in partnership with venues, festivals and producers to present a product that we consider will announce itself in time as among and if not one the best in local, national and international small to medium scale performances.

We envisage that our professional approach / outlook and artistic goals will achieve:
  • Brand recognition - Jimmy Flinders Productions films/shows as an offering of value and a particular quality and aesthtic
  • Anticipation – audiences will look forward to experiencing our productions on an ongoing basis
  • Industry – Artists (whether actor, director, producer, lighting design, DOP, editor) will want to be a part of our collaboration and enjoy participating in it for their own professional and artistic reasons.
  • Stakeholders – producers, funding bodies and venue management will be assured of a professional working relationship and production quality that meets stipulated aims, deadlines and budgets.
